Police on East Coast Demerara are still to make a breakthrough in the brutal murder of security guard, Abdul Sattaur Kadir, almost a week ago.
The 53-year-old Kadir, of Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was hacked to death late Wednesday night last, at his work place, Best Buy Hardware store at Bladen Hall, East Coast Demerara.
Six days after the killing, investigators are still no closer to identifying the two men whose images were captured on surveillance cameras mounted at the back of the hardware store on the night Kadir was killed.
A police source told this newspaper that the images obtained are not of good quality and cannot be enhanced to provide detectives with a chance to positively identifying the men.
The source said that Kadir’s killers appear to know the compound, since they were aware of where the light switches were located and took them off to make it difficult for the surveillance cameras to pick them up clearly.
Investigators also believe that the killers were recognized by Kadir, who confronted them when they entered the compound.
Police said that about 22:45 hours on Wednesday, the security guard was alone on duty when he challenged two men who had entered the large compound from the back.
During this time, he was attacked by the men who dealt him several chops about his body and escaped.
According to reports, persons heard Kadir’s screams but by the time help arrived, his attackers had already fled.
Divisional Commander Marlon Chapman had told Kaieteur News that the police received a call about the incident and responded, only to find Kadir lying in a pool of blood next to his guard hut. He had been chopped to the head, face, hands and about his torso.
The Commander said that his ranks picked up the wounded man and took him to the hospital where he succumbed.
This newspaper was told that after chopping the watchman, the killers made no attempt to break into the hardware store, nor did they take anything from the compound.
“There was no sign of any attempt to enter the building and the owner said that nothing was stolen from the yard, although there are many pieces of equipment of immense value,” an East Coast Demerara police official told this newspaper.
The dead man was buried yesterday. One of his daughters told this newspaper that the family is hoping that the authorities secure justice for them.
His wife, Maureen, had told this newspaper that she was not told all the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death, but she too is depending on the police to quickly apprehend his killers.
