Coordinator Lennox Arthur has disclosed that the Annual Mayor’s Cup Football tournament will commence at the Victoria Ground on the East Coast to Thursday from Thursday weather permitting.
Heavy rainfall over the past few days had forced the rescheduling of the event from Sunday to Thursday.
The fixtures will open with a doubleheader at Victoria which will see at 6:00pm Ann’s Grove of the East Coast clashing with Eagles United of Linden in the curtain raiser, followed by BV/Triumph colliding with another Linden outfit in Milerock from 8:00pm in the nightcap.
The tournament continues on Friday with Mahaica of the East Coast taking on Herstelling of the East Bank, while Golden Grove go up against fellow East Coast team Buxton Bakewell.
The action runs into Saturday with another double header fixed, this time for the Den Amstel ground on the Westside. Play starts at 1:30pm with Beavers challenging Eagles, while Den Amstel follow on pitch against Agricola at 3:30pm.
Sunday at the same venue and times (1:30pm and 3:30pm), Uitvlugt tackle Soesdyke with Pouderoyen facing Kuru Kuru.
The teams are battling for the Mayor’s Cup and cash prizes, with the top four set to claim respective $700,000, $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000.
