It was cold and rainy from start to finish, but the elements could not deter the Trinidad-based Guyanese duo, Lionel D’Andrade and Kelvin Johnson from carrying the flag for Guyana at the Point Fortin Borough Races on Sunday.

D’Andrade finished second in a 15km Run on Sunday in 51:13 behind Trinidadian Curtis Cox (50:26) while Kelvin Johnson was third in 51:28 in the road race.
“I am very pleased with my time, because last year, I placed fourth. I got a late start this morning when the race started, because I was sheltering from the rain. So I was trailing in fifth place for most of the course and then increased my pace at the last three miles,” D’Andrade said from Trinidad.
The annual Point Fortin Borough Races 15km Run and 7.5km walk had 160 participants who all ran in the rain to contribute to the Borough of Point Fortin community development. The races are normally held on the Sunday prior to the culmination of the Point Fortin Borough Day celebrations.
