City Launches Three R’s Project at St Pius Primary School
On Friday City Hall’s Solid Waste Management Director Walter Narine and Public Relations Officer Mrs. Debra Lewis launched the Three R’s initiative at St. Pius Primary School. The three R’s refer to Re-use, Recycle and Reduce.
Narine in an invited comment told Kaieteur News that the project is aimed at making the younger generation more aware of proper waste disposal and management strategies.
He stated that they are targeting the primary school level because the younger ones are more often than not receptive to new ideas.

The pupils of St. Pius Primary School were treated to a shopping game where “smart shopping” was demonstrated with special emphasis placed on re-using shopping bags, purchasing recyclable items and the reduction of solid waste disposal.
At the end of the demonstration; three students were elected as Environmental Prefects.
The pupils were presented with bio-degradable shopping bags donated by Bounty and Survival Supermarkets, which are part of the project. City Hall PRO Debra Lewis said, “We will leave no stone unturned in this respect; we are going to be visiting all schools in Georgetown over the next two months in an effort to raise awareness of proper solid waste disposal.”
Lewis ended by saying that they (M&CC) hope to have a “clean school” competition in the future with incentives for the cleanest schools.
