Last weekend’s round in the Golyn 10/10 softball cricket tournament organized by the Guyana Softball League and sponsored by Golyn and Sons, Trophy Stall and Miss Love Trading saw some scintillating cricket and some results that shocked the spectators and renewed their interest in the tournament. The results are as follows:
Omesh XI pounded Crossbreed Warriors into submission by 8 wickets:
Crossbreed Warriors took first strike and rattled up a challenging 107 all out in 10 overs with Mark Grant looking in good touch being the only one to offer some resistance with 20 (1×6;2×4) off 7 balls. He was going at a good run rate but seemed to lose concentration and was caught on the long off boundary going for another big shot. Travis Drakes with 4-12 rattled the batting. He was supported by Avinash Persaud with 2-20 from 2 overs.
Crossbreed Warriors, knowing their strength is their bowling, got a breakthrough early, but Travis Drakes who looked solid and positive in his stroke-play and putting in a good all round performance took the fight out of them with a blistering 47 not out laced with 5 sixes and 3 fours and in an unbroken partnership with Quincy Jones 46 not out (6×6;) worth 83 runs, ensured victory for Omesh XI.
Ruimzeight XI got back into winning ways by defeating Mighty Lions by 6 wickets:
Mighty Lions XI batted first and scored 92-2 in 10 overs with Skipper Manoj Persaud continuing his rich form with 46 (5×6) off 30 balls to anchor the innings. The over confident Vipers XI took first strike and scored 89 all out in 9.2 overs with Riaz Mohamed taking 3-9 in 1.2 overs and Sham Singh supporting with 3-23 from 2 overs. In reply Amazon Warriors XI started very circumspect and allowed the required run rate to climb beyond 9 runs per over but with the fall of the first wicket, Feroze Rohoman started to play shots to all parts with 46 (7×6) off 17 balls to put them back on track with the lower half being shepherded by Skipper Imran Hack with 13 not out that took them to victory in scoring 90-5 in 10 overs. Arif Hussain tried his best to limit them with 2-14 from 2 overs but it was the rest of bowlers who let them down.
Speedboat SC defeated West Coast Blazers XI by 4 wkts:
West Coast Blazers won the toss and batted, scoring a challenging 105 -8 in 9 overs with Richard Burnette scoring a brisk 48 (7×6;1×4) off 20 balls to take the fight to Speedboat SC.
