A mute artist is nursing a gunshot wound to his abdomen, which he sustained when bandits invaded his 1129 ‘B’ Field Sophia home early yesterday morning.
Rixon Williams, who shares the house with his two brothers who are also mute, was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital by a kindhearted taxi driver who responded to the appeal for help.
This newspaper was told that Williams was watching television at around 03:00 hours, when he heard strange noises coming from another section of the house.
At the time his two other brothers were asleep.
Williams got up to investigate and was confronted by two bandits, one of whom was carrying a gun.
The bandit discharged a round, hitting Williams in his stomach.
The gunshot and commotion startled his two brothers, who jumped out of bed and rushed to see what had happened.
They found him lying on the floor with blood gushing from his wound and subsequently went to get help.
The taxi driver, who answered to the name Orlando, told this newspaper that he was “taking a drink” when one of Williams’ brothers came to the shop.
The mute man managed to explain what had happened and Orlando responded promptly and took the wounded man to the hospital.
Kaieteur News understands that Williams is in a stable condition.
