Dear Editor,
I have sit in silence and watch the ridiculous and backwards changes this new government has made hoping that someone would say something about them. The people in this country need to wake up. There are many issues I would like to write on but for now I will talk about high cost of obtaining a GPL meter. GPL told me that the cost will be $19000 and something (can’t remember the exact number) and for the new housing schemes like Parfaite Harmony where I am located I will have to pay an additional $10000 Capital contribution for infrastructure development.
My frustration is that this government is pressuring persons to start construction by sending out letters to them and added to the expense of construction the cost of everything is going up. In my view GPL supposed to give the meter for free. If a business man tells a customer that he has to pay extra for the business man do develop his own business is that right. No one will accept that. And this is practical what GPL is saying. And it seems like public outcry does not sway the Government. We had to pay for the land that should have had the basic infrastructure so people can live. Electricity is a basic necessity of life now and the Government is holding the tax paying citizens of the country at ransom. This is why there should be more than one company selling electricity. GPL receives billions of tax payers’ dollars from the Government every year is the purpose of that. I really think that we are being oppressed in this country. Something should be done about this.
