Abdul Burnett of Stone Avenue, Campbellville, Georgetown was convicted on a drug charge yesterday and sentenced to three months in prison at the City’s Court.
Burnett pleaded not guilty to possession of 672 grams of marijuana on December 14 2015, at Stone Avenue, Campbellville, Georgetown when he first appeared on January 11, last. He was also fined $30,000 by Magistrate Judy Latchman.
He was previously granted High Court bail after his lawyer Adrian Thompson had his case appealed.
The prosecution’s case indicated that on the day of the incident Burnett confessed when police officers busted him at Stone Avenue, Campbellville, Georgetown where they found the drug after searching a nearby empty lot.
Police say that Burnett led the officers to some bushes where he kept two plastic bags containing leaves, seeds and stems and he told them “I does do this for a li’l hustle.” Prosecutor Michael Grant told the court that the officers picked up the parcels and arrested Bernette.
The prosecution won the case after the Magistrate found the prosecution’s evidence to be conclusive. A total of four witnesses testified at court and the Magistrate found Burnett guilty.
