Police at the Charity Outpost have detained a Jacklow, Lower Pomeroon man whose boat allegedly crashed into his uncle’s ballahoo boat, resulting in his death.
The accused, Lennox Baharally, who is currently in custody reportedly tried to dispose of his uncle’s body.
Persons in the Pomeroon River who witnessed the accident were reluctant to speak.
Dead is 58-year-old Mohamed Shameer, formerly of Jacklow.
The dead man’s sister, ‘Fatty’, related that both her nephew and brother were heading to Charity when the accident occurred. The distraught woman added that Mohamed’s nephew was traveling aboard a craft powered by an outboard engine boat; Mohammed was in a paddle boat.
The woman stated that after crashing his boat into Mohamed’s and realizing that the man had died, her nephew took Mohamed’s body from his boat and placed it into his boat, then attempted to sink the boat.
She claimed that Baharally always drove while under the influence alcohol. On two previous occasions he collided with others in the Pomeroon.
A post mortem examination is expected to be performed shortly. (Yannason Duncan)
