Dear Sports Editor,
While I was not privy to view and peruse a copy of the adopted Constitution of Guyana Football Federation, as such may I inquire publicly, how many Sub-Committees are there and is the Grounds Committee, one of them? Editor, my reason for this basic line of question is primarily due to an article appearing in the KN Publication (19. 04. 16) captioned, “Guyana to play both CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup matches overseas – GFF”. With the reason for forfeiting its rights as a host, being: “The unavailability of the Guyana National Stadium due to an international cricket engagement. The National Track and Field Facility, Leonora, will require a significant amount of work to ensure its readiness”.
Firstly, when I was a member of the Grounds/Competitions Committee during Klass’ tenure of the Presidency, an emergency meeting would have been convened exploring all options for the grounds/venues rental; including MSC, Linden, Blairmont and GCC, which at this juncture may be unsuitable due to inadequate seating. Within 48 hours the costs for rental of the various venues would have been in place followed by budgets of expenditure; along with projected incomes. Thereafter, inspections and conduciveness for crowd support would have been well entrenched for matches.
Secondly, with a time frame of approximately 6 weeks at its disposal, did the GFF Executive take into serious consideration, duration for rehabilitating the Leonora Facility, inclusive of: additional seating accommodation; installation of a water sprinkling system for the surface; construction of dressing rooms and costs; would it have been feasible and financial viable?
Thirdly, was any approach made to the Sports Ministry and the National Sport Commission for assistance in relation to the aforementioned?
Editor, with no financial gains to be derived by the GFF, by virtue of “Forfeiting its right” as a host, due to the unavailability of a suitable venue, then, would the Leonora Facility be eventually upgraded to International requirements; moreover, with a few Elite League matches being played there? Should an Elite League participant, put forward a strong case in writing outlining its inability to play a match, due to a poorly maintained playing surface, devoid of moisture content! What would be the GFF’s response, sanction (s) immediately? Did the GFF Executive upon its familiarization visit to the NSC, Director discuss the state on the Leonora Facility and subsequent implications?
Meanwhile, given all the “ups and downs” in the sport’s administration, definitely “micromanagement is not needed at this juncture! Do all the Associations have a GFF Executive assigned to it, and is the staging of competitions, workshops, seminars and upgrading of grounds an integral part of discussions?
