Kwakwani Hospital gets US$3,700 hydrocollator
The Kwakwani Hospital in Region 10 now owns a US$3,700 hydrocollator.
Mr. Lewis Robinson hands over the hydrocollator to Minister Karen Cummings.
A hydrocollator is a heating unit used to heat up “hot packs” that can be used as heating pads on patients with athletic injuries to their joints and muscles.
The unit was donated by overseas-based Guyanese, Mr. Lewis Robinson. Yesterday he handed over the unit to Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings.
Robinson, who lived in Kwakwani for some time while he lived in Guyana, explained that he visited the hospital recently and assessed that they needed this piece of equipment.
He explained that from time to time he would make donations towards not only the health sector, but also towards sporting disciplines in Guyana.
The Marine Engineer and Entrepreneur, who has been living in the United States of America for some 35 years, explained that he saw the need for the equipment due to the fact that a lot of logging and sporting activities take place in the region.
Robinson pointed out that logging involves a lot of lifting, bending and stretching and likewise, sporting disciplines such as Basketball and Football can result in muscle injuries.
As such, this piece of equipment would be very useful in alleviating the pain associated with injuries of that nature. Additionally, this particular Hydrocollator can also be used to sterilize medical instruments.
Robinson noted that he has recognised that there is more equipment that the hospital needs and he is open to making more donations in the future.
Meanwhile, Minister Cummings in receiving the Hydrocollator on behalf of the Ministry expressed gratitude for the generous donation. She pointed out that Public Health Minister, Dr. George Norton, would be particularly happy about the donation, since he had visited the Kwakwani Hospital recently and knows the equipment will come in handy.
“We are very appreciative of persons from the Diaspora coming and giving back to the country and as we celebrate our Golden Jubilee, it is certainly a very timely gesture. We want to promise you that we are going to make use of the equipment so that we can be able to improve our service delivery to the citizens of Guyana,” Dr. Cummings added.
