Roraima Airways inducts triple-engine aircraft to fleet

Roraima Airways yesterday launched its Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO) Division and christened its newest addition, the triple-engine Britten Norman Trislander, to its fleet.

Apart from the Minister within the Ministry of Infrastructure, Annette Ferguson; and the Minister of Public Telecommunications and Tourism, Catherine Hughes, the launch attracted several members, representatives of entities such as the Private Sector Commission (PSC); the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI); Tourism Agencies; and members of the Aviation Sector.
Earlier this year, the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) presented Roraima Airways with the Approved Maintenance Organization (AMO) certificate.
The Airways now has the capacity and has met the standards and criteria to conduct its own aircraft maintenance and provide the same services to other operators.
In other words, Roraima Airways once outsourced its aircraft maintenance. However with its new maintenance division been certified with the AMO certificate, outsourcing is now a thing of the pass.
Chief Executive Officer of Roraima Airway’s Inc., Captain Gerry Gouveia, said that while the company was very satisfied with the company that it outsourced its maintenance works to for the past two decades, the need for its own organisation came from the frequent need to have the works done more conveniently.
“As your company grows and you get more airplanes; and the fact that we spend so much of our time in the skies of night doing medical evacuation, we needed a maintenance organisation that will respond when we need them to,” he related.
He continued that over the years, he would have been urged by persons to take it to the next level. The day has come, he said, while adding that Roraima has received the approval to bring in four of these triple-engine aircrafts.
“Our Pilots have been in the transition phase. We’ve been working this Trislander for more than five months; we’re getting more and more comfortable with it; we are very pleased with it; and our passengers are also very pleased with it,” Captain Gouveia said.
The aircraft is adorned with Guyana’s Golden Jubilee Logo and the name of deceased veteran Pilot, Captain Alvin Clarke on its tale.
Minister Ferguson congratulated Roraima Airways for their newest induction to the fleet. She cited the development as a boost for the aviation sector.
Ferguson said that just recently, she journeyed to the various airstrips in Region Seven where she got a “first-hand experience’ of what “our Guyanese brothers and sisters endure on a daily basis.
She continued that the Government of Guyana had made a promise to ensure that the country has developed airstrips, particularly in the hinterland regions; along with an aviation policy, she assured the gathering that the Government will be working to ensure that this comes to fruition.
Roraima also received Ministerial kudos from Minister Hughes as she revealed her own personal experience where the Airways acted promptly during a family emergency some time ago.
She lauded the stance that the company has taken over the years and its commitment to the country. She also applauded the efforts of the youths that were present, and urged that with this newest development at Roraima Airways, it will serve as a base for youngsters who are desirous of getting into the sector.
