The man who allegedly bludgeoned another man on his head with a scantling and had been on the run for
over a week has finally surrendered. He is expected to be charged with murder.
The man surrendered around midday on Monday in company of Attorney-at-Law Mursaline Bacchus at the Central Police Station. He is the third man to be arrested and placed in custody following the incident.
The other two, one of whom is his brother, were arrested earlier. Another man who was also arrested was released.
Omesh Seelall, called Rovin, 21, a labourer of Betsy Ground Village, East Canje Berbice died around 13:30 hrs on Friday after being on a ventillator for six days. Seelall was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on the morning of April 17 in a critical condition. He was transferred from the New Amsterdam hospital after he was bashed in his head around midnight on Saturday.
The man’s father Seelall, called “Jackpaul,” had stated that since his son was hit he did not regain consciousness. He had stated that the doctors had told him that there was little chance that his son would have made it since his brain has stopped functioning.
“His head was bash in and his eyes bulged out. There was massive internal damage and bleeding. A lot of clots were removed.”
The senior Sealall had stated that after his son was hit the devastating blow to his head and fell unconscious he was pounced upon by the others who stomped him even as he lay gravely injured bleeding from his mouth, nose, ears, eye and other parts of his body.
His attackers, who all hail from the same village, then fled the scene and went into hiding.
Reports are that a wedding was being held nearby and hundreds of persons were in the vicinity. Seelall was initially in a nearby shop with some friends, who were imbibing, subsequently left the shop and went outside.
Resident said that there were a number of fights in the vicinity during the night. Seelall was standing on the road in the vicinity of a dray cart when he was attacked around midnight.
The main attacker suddenly ran across the road and grabbed a piece of wood (2×4 scantling) from the dray cart and struck Seelall to his head flooring him instantly and rendering him unconscious.
The others then pounced upon him and stomped him repeatedly before escaping.
