Slingerz FC continued their rise towards winning the GENESIS and FINALE of the inaugural STAG ELITE LEAGUE FINALE with a 2-1 win over the Georgetown Football Club on Friday night last at the Tucville ground; Fruta Conquerors trounced the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 5-2 in the feature match on the night.
The home team Conquerors continued their phenomenal run in this FINALE with another clinical performance as they downed the Army side in a clinical display, registering five first half goals to maintain their second place standing.
Conquerors, in recording their eight win in ten matches banged in their first goal 7 minutes into the opening half, compliments of Dennis Edwards. Eon Alleyne doubled the advantage in the 18th minute while senior campaigner Dellon Williams made it a 3-0 match in the 28th minute.
To underscore their dominance of proceedings, Conquerors made it 4-0 in the 31st minute when the dependable Hubert Pedro found the back of the nets with Jahall Greaves putting the match beyond the GDF seven minutes later with a goal of his own.
By then the mountain that was created by the home side was way too insurmountable for the visitors who, despite pulling two back could not break the home team’s defence.
Clifford Garraway in the 60th and Jerome Richardson 90 +2 who was also red carded
for his second bookable offence in the same time as his goal were the two players to hit the network for the Army side which suffered their fourth loss in 10 matches.
In the opening match Slingerz, riding high at the top maintained their unbeaten record with their 10th win in as many matches via a 2-1 margin over GFC. The Bourda boys put in a much better performance even as they suffered their 9th loss of the season in ten matches with one draw.
A late surge by GFC which brought their consolation goal in the 90+2 minute off the boot of Kelsey Benjamin could not deny the winner of the GENESIS leg of the league from maintaining their unblemished record.
Slingerz got their goals from Gideon Payne in the 28th minute and a well executed free kick from Brazilian Murilo Barbosa.
Round 11 matches will be commence today at the GDF ground when home team GDF oppose Pele in the main attraction at 21:00hrs, opening play will see GFC taking on Buxton United at 18:30hrs.
