Pele Football Club on the strength of a Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson goal took full points in their latest match of the Stag Elite League – Finale on Wednesday night last at the GFC ground, Bourda.
The opening match saw Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United coasting to a comfortable 3-1 win over West Berbice’ Monedderlust. Buxton would have been on the improve in the Finale round of matches and the Pele match up confirmed that.
It was the experienced Richardson who made the difference between the two sides when he rocked the nets in the 32nd minute top lead Pele to their fourth win in 10 matches as they moved to 13 points, 9 adrift of leaders Slingerz FC in fifth place.
Alpha notched win number six in their 10 matches to date as they continue to keep the second placed Fruta Conquerors within sight.
They ran away 2-0 leaders by the 32nd minute of the clash against Monedderlust, Colin Nelson in the 31st minute and elder statesman Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams one minute later setting them apart. But Monedderlust pulled one back in the 39th minute thanks to a goal from Kevin Layne Jnr.
The former number side in Guyana was held by the young up and coming West Berbice based unit and were only able to restore their two goal cushion with six minutes to full time.
Another senior player in Dwight Peters had to step up to save his side any blushes when he scored in the 86th minute. The win carried Alpha to 20 points still two off Conquerors and 7 behind Slingerz.
Two more matches will be played today to complete round 10. Leaders Slingerz will open against bottom of the table Georgetown Football Club with eth main attraction between Conquerors and the Guyana Defence Force. Kick off time is 18:30hrs.
