It was somewhat strange that a press conference which was held yesterday by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA) was missing the presence of management’s top members.
With the exception of CH&PA’s legal officer, the only representatives who were present at the briefing were Chairman of CH&PA, Hamilton Green, Engineer Bert Carter and a few members of the CH&PA Board.
Several important questions were asked by members of the media on the irregularities within the housing sector and a number of “suspicious” projects which should have been under the watchful eye of the management team. But it appears that the media and the CH&PA Chairman are in the same boat. He told the media that many of the questions were put to the management team and he is still awaiting the answers along with a full report.
Kaieteur News challenged the Chairman to explain why the management team was not present to answer several critical questions. He subsequently sent an official to locate members of the management team, but they were not in the building.
The CH&PA Chairman was asked to say whether there was some disconnect between the board and management, and if he is receiving some level of cooperation.
He said, “We receive cooperation at a certain level. I have not experienced any truculence from any member but sometimes, just sometimes, that does not mean anything…”
Green promised that the Board is going to get to the bottom of all matters of concern within the housing sector.
