Xtra Energy and Extra Orange Drink announced its support of the Boyce and Jefford Five-a-Side Football Contest, which will be played as a part of the Organisation’s Relay Festival and Family Fun Day on Sunday at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
The Football competition kicks off at 10:30am with team registration scheduled for 10am at the venue. According to a press release, the competition will be branded the Xtra Energy Boyce & Jefford Five-a-Side Football Challenge.
Apart from the 10 relay rivalries and male and female softball cricket matches, the day witnesses some of the leading ‘small goal’ football teams in a battle for supremacy. The winner takes home $50,000 and trophy while runner-up gets $25,000.
A trophy will also be handed to the MVP of the tournament. The teams expected to compete are: Police, Agricola, Rich Boys, Wartsila, Brazilians, Customs, Barbershop, Sparta Boss, West Front Road and others.
According to the release the rules of the tournament include the following: teams should comprise of not more than 10 players; each team is required to pay a registration fee of $5,000; the matches will be played on a knockout basis.
In addition, the games will be played for 15 minutes (7½ minute per half) with three minutes half time break; team representatives must be at the venue at 9:30am to be a part of the draws; if there is a draw at the end of a game, penalty kicks will determine the winner – three players to kick after which sudden death determines the winner.
