…two nabbed red handed by decoys
The Police in ‘B’ Division Berbice, have decided to take their fight against drivers who are operating their private cars for hire to another level.
After years of complains by commuters and hire car operators against private operators who are operating their vehicles for hire, the police would usually arrest the drivers and detain their vehicles in the compound for a while before returning them to the owners. The owners would soon return to the same practice all over again.
The cops have now decided to move the fight a step further by using decoys with marked money to nab the law breakers.
On Friday two drivers were caught red handed by decoys. The decoys with marked money boarded the vehicles at New Amsterdam heading to the Corentyne after they were solicited by the drivers. The decoys dismounted at Rose Hall and the drivers were paid with the marked money. After the transaction was completed the drivers were told of the offence and they were arrested and taken into custody.
The drivers are Edroy Thomas 30, of 163 Tucber Park, New Amsterdam who was driving motor car PTT 2096; and Inties Khan, 23, of Fort Ordnance, East Canje Berbice who was driving motor car PTT 5717. They are to be charged with using their motor vehicle for purpose other than what it was licenced for.
