The media were taken on a tour along the proposed Jubilee Parade route, yesterday. Commander of ‘A’ Division Clifton Hicken accompanied Junior Minister within the Ministry of Education, Nicolette Henry, along the planned route for the Golden Jubilee Float Parade.
Minister Henry stated that as was the custom in the past the parade will start at the junction of Church and Camp Streets. It will then proceed west along Church Street to Avenue of the Republic.
The first Judging booth will be positioned at the empty lot at Church and Wellington Streets. Commander Hicken pointed out several potential vending areas. He said that on the day of the parade there will be no cars parked along Church Street.
The route continues along Avenue of the Republic due south to Brickdam and then east along Brickdam.
The second judging booth will be at Brickdam and Manget Place. Commander Hicken said that measures will be put in place to ensure that crowds do not encroach the route. The parade will continue along Brickdam to the Independence Arch at Vlissingen road, proceed north to Homestretch Avenue and turn into Durban Park.
Minister Henry, when asked about the preparations for the parade and the Jubilee celebrations said, “Things are going great, and that’s an understatement!”
Commander Hicken spoke of security for the parade. He said that security measures will be put in place and that sufficient police will be on the streets on that day.
The tour ended at Durban Park where Ministers Ronald Bulkan, David Patterson and Keith Scott met with Minister Henry for discussions regarding Durban Park.
