Another person suffered at the hands of bandits during a daring robbery just outside Real Value supermarket at Church and Thomas Streets, yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon around 14:00hrs, a Chinese national was the latest victim in the spate of crimes that has been plaguing Georgetown for the last week or so.
According to sources the victim is an employee of the Chinese engineering company, China Harbour Engineering Company. He is a regular customer at the supermarket.
This newspaper understands that the bandits were trailing the man in a white car and were apparently waiting for the opportune time to pounce on their victim.
An eyewitness at the scene stated that as the man was walking to his car which was parked just outside Real Value, the bandits came from the other half of Thomas Street.
A man got out of the passenger seat of a white Premio and pointed a handgun at the Chinese man, took away a bag containing $260,000 and his cell phone. The man is reported to have searched the Chinese national and then jumped into the waiting car and promptly fled.
Police arrived on the scene about 15 minutes later and questioned several bystanders. The supermarket has mounted surveillance cameras on the outside and it is reported that the Police have acquired footage of the entire incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
