A McDoom resident was remanded to prison yesterday at a city court after he denied concealing a gun and ammunitions in a septic tank.
Darren Eddie, 22, visibly shaken as he stood in the prisoners’ docks to answer the gun related charges.
He was heard muttering “Oh God…oh God…” whilst shaking his head, as the charges were read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The police are alleging that on April 15, last, Eddie had in his possession a 9mm Glock pistol and 35 rounds of matching ammunition when he was not a licensed firearm holder.
It is further alleged that on the same day he had 26 rounds of.32 ammunition when he was not a licenced owner.
Eddie of lot 50 Middle Street, Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara, denied all of the allegations.
Eddie’s solicitor, Clyde Forde, made an attempt to secure bail for his client stating that he functions as a dutiful carpenter by trade and does not pose a flight risk.
He was fixated on proving that the police officers did not find the items stated in the charge on his client. He told the court that the building is also occupied by three persons and his client resides on the lower flat of the building.
He said that when police officers came to his client’s home to conduct a raid, “My client’s mother was present and they did not find anything in the house, but they went outside into the yard inside a septic tank under a piece of wood where they found the items…There is no link, yet the police still charged him.” He further stated that to his understanding other persons are said to have been charged with the same offence.
However, Prosecutor Dinero Jones objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and the penalty it attracts. The Chief Magistrate had the defendant remanded to prison to May 9, next.
People who knew the suspect were heard wailing outside of the courtroom “He didn’t do nothing…he didn’t do it.
