Dear Editor,
WPA wishes to express our sincere thanks to you for the act of publishing in part our press statement, albeit in the form of a letter. We note the liberties you took in editing out important portions of the statement. Even though we recognize your right to exercise editorial discretion we do believe that those aspects of the statement which you omitted from the public view may have contributed significantly to a diminishing of the message we sought to convey. Another concern of the WPA in relation to what was published is located in the caption “The WPA is awaiting the Walter Rodney Report” which conveyed an impression that is totally false.
Nowhere in the issued statement has WPA made the claim that it is awaiting the Walter Rodney Report. If Kaieteur harboured doubts as to whether or not we were given copies of the report all that was needed to clarify the position was a call to any of the WPA leaders who would have told you that His Excellency, President David Granger had, via Mr. Ronald Backer, delivered six copies of the report to the WPA. It is as a result of being given the report that WPA was able to offer our comments. WPA hopes that this letter will be published in an effort to correct the misrepresentation that was contained in your caption.
