Trophy Stall yesterday announced its support of the Boyce and Jefford Softball Cricket
Chairman of the Boyce/Jefford Committee, Colin Boyce (left) receives some of the trophies that will be up for grabs Sunday from Proprietor of the Trophy Stall, Ramesh Sunich yesterday.
Contest that will be played as a part of the Organisation’s Relay Festival and Family Fun Day on Sunday at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
Apart from the relay rivalries, the day will see Guyana’s top two female softball cricket teams, Trophy Stall Angels and Mike’s Well Woman battle in a much-anticipated match that features Guyana’s West Indies World Cup Champions, Shemaine Campbell and Tremayne Smartt.
Smartt is scheduled to play for Trophy Stall Angels while Campbell makes an appearance for Mike’s Well Woman in what should be a humdinger of a game. According to Proprietor of the Trophy Stall, Ramesh Sunich, Smartt will also be honoured on the day.
“We plan to make a presentation to Smartt for her outstanding contributions to the sport and to our team for all these years,” Sunich said, adding that he anticipates the match to be a good one since both teams are very good cricket teams.
He said that he was happy to be associated with the Boyce and Jefford Organisation since “they have always produced good sport events”. The winner of the female softball match will pocket $50,000 and trophy while runner-up gets $25,000.
In addition, there will also be prizes for the ‘Best Batter’ and ‘Best Bowler’ of both teams. The male softball contest will put the Boyce/Jefford Select XI against Trophy Stall XI, which will be a combination of players from Floodlights XI.
The winner of the male game will walk away with a trophy while there will also be an award for ‘Player of the Match’. The respective teams are expected to be named later this week. The day is to also feature Football, Athletics and Dominoes.
