On a day blessed with glorious sun shine in the village of Pomona on the Essequibo coast, Rising Star defeated New Opportunity Corps (NOC) by 29 runs to capture the South Essequibo Cricket Committee T20 title recently.
Rising Star batted first and posted 141-8. They were largely indebted to Kaman Lackhan and Sachin Persaud- the duo added 84 for the third wicket after they were reduced to 37-2. Lackhan scored 42 with four fours before he was dismissed, while Persaud retired hurt on 37 (4×4). Anil Lackahn and Jagdesh Dindyal chipped in with 16 and 14 respectively. Miguel Jones had 4-26 while Akenie Adams took 3-19.
NOC threatened but finished on 112-9 in response. Heresho Paul struck three fours and one six in scoring 35; he added 45 for the fifth wicket with Neilan Cadogan who made 15. Orin Heyliger hit 26 and Jones made 13 down the order as Ravindra Narine captured 3-19 and Anil Lackhan 2-21. Kaman Lackhan was named man-of-the-match while both teams received trophies and cash incentives.
Earlier, Hibernia Sport Club overcame Jaguars in the third place play off. Jaguars were bowled out for 104 with Norman Fredericks scoring 67 (5×4), (2×6); Mangal Samroo took 5-19 off 4 overs and Suraj Persaud 4-23. In reply, Hibernia got to 105-9. Suraj Persaud made 38 (5×4) and Reaz Mohamed scored 29(3×4); Wazim Kamal had 3-20; Suraj Persaud was named man of the match.
