Miss World Guyana 2016 Pageant Finalist and Beauty Ambassador for Region #3 – Essequibo Islands West Demerara – Ms. Marva Langevine is set to host a Charity Day of Football today at the Den Amstel Community Centre
Ground, West Coast Demerara.
The Secondary School Teacher attached to the North Georgetown Secondary School has informed that the Guyana Football Federation has granted approval for today’s event which will see three matches being contested from 17:00hrs with an Under-17 match between Eagles and Den Amstel.
Next up will be a masters’ clash featuring sides from West Bank and West Coast Demerara while the feature attraction pits old rivals Den Amstel and Uitvlugt Warriors in a senior exhibition showdown.
Proceeds from this Beauty with a Purpose activity will be in aid of bereaved young people and their families.
Ms. Langevine informed that she chose to start a national conversation on childhood bereavement because her personal aim has always been to create a safe, loving and therapeutic environment for bereaved children, especially orphans.
“By empowering my fellow citizens, I am optimistic that together, we will express dedication to serving the needs of grieving children and families and as I am providing education and support to those who serve them.”
“I have plans to create bereavement support groups though my membership in the Den-Amstel Youth Empowerment Network and the Periwinkle Cancer Club. Thousands of Guyanese children and their family are bereaved by death due to domestic violence, cancer, suicide, accidents and other top causes of death in this country.”
Langevine further noted that it is her intention to help these families by first catering to the emotional needs of the child by organizing a bereavement camp for children and young people dealing with loss of death.
“A place where they can be around others with similar experiences, share their feelings and form lasting friendships under the care and guidance of mentors including social workers, teachers, caregivers, missionaries and councilors among others.”
She further explained that her dream is to give young people a chance to grow and develop their individual talent as they learn to cope with their grief. Ms. Langevine also plan to highlight the financial burdens of bereaved families, especially widows who often head down a road of poverty as a result of their spouse’s death.
“Beauty with a Purpose is at the heart of Miss World as it strives to help children worldwide; therefore it carries higher marks than any other challenge events.”
Gratitude is being extended to the executive body of Bakewell Slingerz FC and Slingerz Family Entertainment for making this event possible, Ms Langevine informed.
The Trophy Stall of Section “C” Bourda Market has donated trophies for this Beauty with A Purpose Project that will be presented to each of the participating clubs at the end of the matches.
