He had named the individuals that he claimed paid him to kill 72-year-old Clementine Fiedtkou-Parris.
But now that investigators are trying to lay charges against his alleged paymasters, one of the men who was convicted of Mrs. Parris’s murder is bluntly refusing to co-operate, police said yesterday.
The convict had fingered the alleged plotters in an unsworn statement he had given police shortly after being arrested for the June 30, 2011 murder.
The statement was admitted as evidence during the trial of Orwin Hinds, Kevin October, Cleon Hinds and Roy Jacobs, who were subsequently sentenced to 81 years each for the killing.
“We contacted the individual who had implicated the two other persons as the planners and he was very uncooperative and refused to answer further questions,” a police official said yesterday.
“We are working with the Police Legal Advisor and based on her suggestions, we are working. There are other recommendations that the police will continue to explore.”
Crime Chief Blanhum had confirmed earlier this week that investigators were going after the individuals who allegedly plotted to have the old woman killed.
Blanhum said that the police submitted the file on Monday to the legal advisor “to ascertain if we have sufficient evidence to prosecute the individuals who allegedly orchestrated or planned” the murder.
Clementine Fiedtkou-Parris was in her Lot 42 Robb Street home on the night of June 30, 2011, when two men entered her yard and asked to see her. When the elderly woman went to her door, a gunman riddled her with bullets before fleeing in a car with his accomplice.
The execution was said to be part of a conspiracy for money, and was reportedly linked to a property dispute.
During the trial, a caution statement provided by one of the accused had outlined that there was a plot by someone to murder the elderly woman. The gunmen were allegedly paid to end the woman’s life.
In September 2015, the accused were all found guilty, and Justice Navindra Singh sentenced each man to 81 years in prison.
Following sentencing, the convicted men all maintained that they were innocent.
Attorneys-at law George Thomas and Moti Singh, subsequently indicated to the court their intention to appeal the convictions.
