De tail wagging de dog is a saying that people does use when dem see a situation in which de boss end up tekking order from he subordinate. That is wha happening now inside de Camp Street jail. Is like wha dem old people does seh —‘Cat nah deh, rat tek over.
From de time Rum Jattan go inside de prison and cry in front dem prisoners after a group of dem did bun up demself, de whole situation inside de place change. De prisoners decide that dem is now de boss.
Dem boys hear dem had a cricket match wid de Condemn Block playing de Remand. Nobody didn’t want to umpire because every player had he jukka. If de bowler appeal and de umpire seh not out, is jook de umpire getting jook. If he seh de batsman out is jook he getting jook.
De game play okay. Wheh de prisoners get de ball from nobody don’t know. De bat was plenty, ever since de riot when dem knock out some of de wall.
De next day dem play football. Everybody does play friendly matches. This set start off friendly and it never get to finish.
But is de cooking that really going on. De prisoners tekking orders just like a catering service. Yesterday, dem provide an order of egg sandwich fuh de Salvation Army. De problem was that de prisoners couldn’t send it outside and de Salvation Army couldn’t pick it up. Dem prisoners feast.
Dem boys seh that when something start in one place it does spread. Dem other prisoners watching to see wha gun happen in Camp Street fuh try de same thing.
Life in Camp Street different from life outside. Outside people does sleep wid dem house lock up. In Camp Street wheh dem got more thief man than anywhere else people sleeping wid dem cell door open. And dem prison warden crying.
Talk half and wait till de ration run out.
