The Guyana Police Force is seeking the assistance of the public in apprehending Winston Sherlock
Wade called ‘Quarters’ is wanted for questioning in relation to the abduction of Tarzim Gafoor last Saturday.
Gafoor, who runs an auto dealership and exports prawns, was abducted from his home at Windsor Forest, West Coast Demarera, and taken to the city where he was eventually released after his abductors were told he was the wrong man.
The businessman told police that he was at his home around 10.00 hrs on Saturday when an individual known as ‘Quarters’ came to his residence and called out to him. But when he let the man into his yard, two other men reportedly also entered and forced him into a white Toyota Premio.
Kaieteur News was told that the businessman enquired from ‘Quarters’ why the men were abducting him, but the men ordered him to “shut up”. They then drove to West Ruimveldt ‘Back Road’, where they were joined by the occupants of another vehicle. According to reports, the men who had abducted the businessman wound down their car windows, exposing their captive to the other men.
They reportedly then asked the occupants of the other car if the businessman was “the Coolie Man they wanted.” The abductors were then informed that they had picked up “the wrong man.” The businessman was subsequently released and he immediately contacted the police.
Police have since searched two locations for ‘Quarters’ and his accomplices, and are also trying to locate the car.
They also checked Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) footage in a bid to identify all of the individuals.
Police say that the 33-year-old Wade is of mixed race and his last known addresses are Lot 59 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, and Lot 25 Oleander Gardens, East Coast Demerara.
Anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of Winston Sherlock Wade called ‘Quarters’ is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 268-2343, 268- 2298, 268-2222, 225-6411, 225-2227, 911 or the nearest police station.
