Dear Editor,
It was at no surprise to see the questionable Harmon affairs unfold on multiple levels for the court of public opinion to make their judgement. This is the same court that APNU/AFC dragged the PPP through to claim victory with a promise to “do better” and provide a “good life” that is free from corruption. The latter of which was backed up by a “code of conduct” in which it stated that no gifts should be accepted by officials that are above a certain value. The question is then, how much a flight in a private jet cost?
The President rushed to clean up the mess, as if he was sleeping through all this, by rescinding Tiwari’s appointment and approved GRA’s move to seize their luxury vehicles OF Bai Shan Lin. Then we waited to see how the President will navigate this dilemma. In a display of gross double standard and to the shock and dismay of their supporters, the President and PM chose to back Harmon behavior 100% with the PM going against his own AFC party to say Harmon is honest. This was so shocking that the AFC Chairman resigned.
These series of hypocritical and visionless moves, made it clear that AFC has abandoned its supporters who expected better from the coalition and even more from the AFC leadership. Now many wonder what is next for Guyana. Some are now saying that they may have jumped out of the frying pan in to fire.
Very soon all Guyanese will come to the understanding that there are not many options to choose from in the political process and really the choice is two. AFC has killed all hopes of taking Guyana’s democracy to the next level because they are hungrier for power for themselves. If they had stand their ground and stand behind the people that truly wanted a third option, they would have possibly been a viable party for Guyana. But it is because of their inability to lead in a balance of power environment that made them chose the easy option.
What the President don’t seem to understand or is not willing to admit, is that he is surrounded by vipers, dragons and crabs who don’t give one cent for the people much less two. This is our reality, a sad one that shows no hope for the average Guyanese. The average Guyanese doesn’t have access to private jets and benefits of back door deals. The man and woman on the daily grind are feeling the pain; no money is circulating; people can’t afford to get by while there is salary increase for Government’s top brass. I pray for my country as we head into the sad path that I unfortunately predicted before May 11 elections. At this time people should start researching what is the meaning of the “resource curse” when your country is led by incompetent people.
