A 15-year-old male student, Auburn Campbell, of St George’s High School, Company Path, Georgetown, was nursing wounds to his hands after his classmate dealt him five chops in the school compound during their
mid morning break at school on Tuesday 12.
The incident stemmed from an earlier confrontation on Monday when the perpetrator was overheard making a comment about a female student “smelling like sex.”
After he made the comment, he then said to Campbell, “And you could go tell her if yuh feel like too!”
Campbell did tell the female student what was said. A scuffle ensued between Campbell and his assailant and it was eventually parted.
The now injured student told Kaieteur News that he thought the scuffle was the end of it. Credible sources at the school informed this newspaper that on Tuesday, the perpetrator showed up at school accompanied by his mother who created a ruckus, during which she was allegedly heard to say, “What he gon get he look for”.
And in an even more worrying allegation, it was said she even told her son to chop his classmate, Campbell, when he came to school.
Kaieteur News was made to understand that the chopping incident occurred during the mid morning break.
Campbell’s assailant armed himself with a cutlass and attacked him from behind but he managed to bar the chops with his hands, thus sustaining a deep cut to his left wrist as well as injuries to the fingers on his right hand.
The assailant then left the school without any attempt of apprehension by the traumatized school authorities.
Melinda Campbell, the mother of the injured teen, when reached for comment, said that up to yesterday there has been no action taken by the police.
The injured boy’s parents have had to do some running around to acquire a medical certificate in order for any arrest to be made, they said.
When asked by this newspaper if the Schools Welfare officials have taken any action, the answer was in the negative. Melinda Campbell, said that Welfare Officers visited them at the hospital but then told them to visit the Schools Welfare Department, later.
