A salesman who police say intended to traffic 18 grams of what they believe is marijuana was remanded to prison
Tuesday, when he appeared at the City’s Court.
“It’s only 18 grams your worship,” pleaded Attorney-at-Law Paul Fung-a-Fat, who tried to secure his client’s bail.
But Akeem Lashley, of 183 Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown was refused bail and remanded to prison until his next court appearance on May 3.
Lashley denied the charge against him which said that on April 9, 2016 at Georgetown he had in his possession 18 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
According to the police report, Lashley was found with a small purse in his pocket containing the suspected substance after police ranks searched him. The ranks had informed the defendant about the offence he allegedly committed and he was subsequently taken to the Albouystown Police Station where the substance was weighed in his presence. After this, Lashley was charged and arrested.
Prosecutor Corporal Inniss objected to bail given the gravity of the offence. And Magistrate Annette Singh made the lawyer aware of the conditions surrounding the illegal drug.
