On Monday, Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, met with the members of the State Assets Recovery Unit (SARU).
A statement from the Ministry of the Presidency yesterday said that the members provided the Minister with a report on all matters attracting the attention of SARU.
The unit, established last year by the new Government to go after properties and monies believed stolen, has been investigating several cases, including the acquisition and sale of the Pradoville Two lands to former Ministers and persons close to the previous administration.
According to the Ministry, yesterday, during the meeting, SARU discussed challenges with progress measured and plans and strategies devised on the way forward.
Head of SARU, Professor Clive Thomas, advised on the progress made as it relates to the laying of the State Assets Recovery Agency Bill 2016 in the National Assembly.
The unit’s progress has been stymied with the absence of related legislations to make its work more legal.
“The members of the unit pledged their support and commitment towards achieving the unit’s mandate. The Minister of State reminded the members of their tasks and responsibilities and urged all to stay focused.”
