Dear Editor,
Sunday 3rd April, 2016 a historic day for cricket, particularly for the people of the Caribbean, a day we will always remember, at the beginning of the World T/20 Tournament for both Women and Men, no matter how a die-hard West Indian Cricket Fan you are you would not have betted a substantial amount of money on both our teams winning the trophies, but they have done so in style.
One may be very good at assembling words together, but would find it difficult to describe the feeling of our players, the fans and the Management off the teams not forgetting the West Indies Cricket Board, WICB Officials.
Our players have taken their game to a level we have not witnessed since the days of Clive Lloyd and his all-conquering team. Never in the history of West Indian Cricket have we experienced so much joy on any given day or period.
It all started with our Under 19 Team at the limited overs World Tournament, when, against the odds, the beat India who were clear favorites before the matches begin. And on Sunday 03.04.2016 our Women and Men’s Team doing the same in style, it is unprecedented in the history of cricket. Now we must no become complacent, we must transform our success to the longer format of the game. I believe it can happen, I a dreaming that it would happen, but it will of course take some time.
With this level of success, it would of course serve an inspiration to the players, the various boards (Regional Boards) the W.I.C.B. and also the West Indies Players Association to take their responsibilities more seriously or to a higher lever like the players, so that we the people of the Caribbean and elsewhere, would experience many more days like Sunday 3rd April, 2016.
The disappointment, the anguish and for many of us the pain we endure in the past, as a West Indian cricket fan was very intense at times, but never the less we stood our ground, and rally around our team, something we must always do, so our joy and glorious period would not be short lived. Congratulations our Under 19 Team, and our Men and Women Teams and God Bless you.
Archie W. Cordis.
