DEAR EDITOR,
It seems to me that the harm is on. Yes, the coalition government is being harmed by its stunning disregard of history, its arrogance, and its inability to control Joe Harmon. Though I’m aware that political considerations may limit the range of President Granger’s reaction to what is going on, he has to do something before it is too late!
The coalition should not be encouraged by the fact it took three election cycles for our country to fully rid itself, at least for five years, of the Jagdeo-inspired arrogant and power-drunk PPP, because it may not be that lucky. One or two more scandalous incidents may be too much for a tired and impatient electorate to bear, and 2020 may very well see the coalition being booted from office! So President Granger must put himself in his military mindset to deal with the vexing issues that threaten to lead to a return of a Jagdeo-controlled and manipulated PPP to office.
It’s not that I care too much about which party rules our country, but I’d rather have a President Granger or a President Ramkarran or a President Nagamootoo than a President Jagdeo or a President Rohee. Our country has been through too much, has suffered too long, and has lost too many to the unconscionable actions of fantasizing, selfish, and uncaring rulers since our Independence in 1966. And we can’t bear or stand it anymore.
Thus I urge President Granger to immediately ensure that his ministers cease being clones of the arrogant ministers of the PPP government. He should also ensure that all of his ministers know that he will not allow actions of the type attributed to Joe Harmon to go unpunished. And with regard to Joe Harmon in particular, President Granger should be careful lest Joe Harmon morph into Joe Harmhim (meaning becoming a personal and political liability to the president) or into Joe Harmthem (meaning becoming a liability to the political fortunes of the entire coalition).
It does not take a political genius to understand that Joe Harmon’s disclosure about the hiring of campaign supporters as advisors was more an act of being spiteful to the coalition than it was an act of being candid with the press or being accountable to the public. For in Harmon’s mind, he has no problem spilling the beans on anyone that is willing to spill the beans on him.
By the way, with that election-petition case and other unknown matters hanging over the coalition’s neck like a millstone being dragged through a crawl space, President Granger now knows why the PPP ignored his calls to fire or “manners” Clement Rohee and other PPP functionaries for their real or imagined acts of indiscretions.
