Dear Editor,
It pains me greatly to have to write about employees not receiving their salaries on time and the consequences of such. A relative of mine is employed in Linden at a security firm that featured in your columns recently. She’s been in their employ for over two years and the only time herself and other employees have been paid on time is in December. Every month, they are told that they will be paid in the new month. Now my relative has a loan with the Republic Bank.
It’s no fault of hers that her salary is paid late. She has a minor to take care of and the salary is already meagre. Do you know what Republic Bank did to that poor woman? She has to pay $9000 per month for a loan. And because they fed up with the late payment of the loan, they held on to a further $9000. Now my question is “what is the purpose of the late fee?” This woman earns about $40 000.00 per month. Subtract NIS from that along with what Republic Bank deducted this month and tell me how this woman and her school age child are going to survive from now until their next pay date which will most likely be sometime in May. These entities show absolutely no regard for poor people. And Republic Bank Linden Branch has really shown cruelty here. As for the guards, they dare not mention their late payment issue for fear of victimization. Concerned Relative
