Relatives of Toolsie Ram Singh, a handyman from Soesdyke/Linden Highway are seeking the assistance of law enforcement officers to investigate an incident which left him nursing several stab wounds to his chest.
He was admitted to the Male Surgical Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, (GPHC) but has since been released into the care of his relatives, yesterday afternoon.
The 40-year-old man, also known as “Terry” was attacked and stabbed last Saturday night at his Swan Turn residence, Soesdyke/Linden Highway. He recalled that the attack occurred at around 2:00 hrs. The father of four said that his attackers stole $7,000 and a cellular phone before fleeing the scene.
“I wake up and come outside in the yard to go to the toilet and a see a man by the tree. I ask is what you doing in meh yard and he say is you me looking for, and he stab me,” Singh claims.
He also said that he recognised his attacker as a “Rastaman,” from the community. According to Singh, this is the same man he dealt with the night before.
The injured man also told Kaieteur News that from all indications the robbers wanted him dead. During the attack he sustained seven stab wounds to his chest area alone. He underwent surgery for his injuries at GPHC.
“Me get stab in meh chest, bad, and me not sure what meh do de man fuh mek he wan kill me,” Singh said.
His relatives are calling for law enforcement officers to take the matter seriously and to take steps to have the assailants brought to justice.
The man’s brother-in -law, Ronald Edwards, said that he (Singh) was found lying in a pool of blood, a short distance from his house following the attack.
“We had to rush him to the hospital. We carry him to Diamond Hospital first and then he get transferred to Georgetown Hospital.”
According to Edwards, a report was made to the Kuru Kururu Police outpost and the Police station at Timehri, but the police are yet to take a statement from his brother- in- law.
“We running up and down and the police ain’t do nothing,” the man added.
Edwards said that his brother- in- law is a single father, who takes care of his household on a very small budget; his mother would often assist with the children.
