The High Court trial of murder accused, Dhupaul Singh commenced yesterday before Justice Jo Ann
Barlow and a mixed 12-member jury.
Singh is accused of brutally murdering cash crop farmer, Balkissoon, called Balkay at Helena Number Two Village, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara on September 2, 2014.
The accused, a 57 –year-old drug addict from the same village is said to have attacked the farmer during an argument. Initial reports indicated that Singh who is nicknamed “Tailor Man” allegedly
hurled insults at the farmer’s wife and attacked the man when he came to his wife’s defence.
Some time after the argument, the accused is said to have armed himself with a cutlass and chopped Balkissoon almost severing is entire neck.
He is being represented by Attorney-at-Law, Madan Kissoon.
The case is being presented by State Prosecutors Siand Dhurjon and Shawnette Austin. The State Prosecutors have since called two police witnesses to the stand.
