Leaders Slingerz FC further consolidated their position at the top of the standings with another
flawless performance when they blanked Buxton United 2-0 on account of Dominican National player Julian Wade’s double on Sunday evening last at the GDF ground, Camp Ayangana.
The feature game saw Alpha United romping to a landslide 5-0 win over Pele, the latter being reduced to 10-men in the 58th minute when Jermaine Fordyce was booked for a second time in the match.
Buxton in their clash against Slingerz were also reduced to 10-men when Rondell Assanah received a straight red card for using abusive language to the Referee. But that did not take away from the performance of Wade and Slingerz.
Wade, in ominous form following a hat-trick for Dominica against the British Virgin Islands in that nations 7-0 win in the Scotiabank / CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup Round 1 match last week banged in goals in each half to formalize Slingerz’ win and hold at the top of the table.
The lanky Wade scored in the 5th and 58th minute as his team maintained their unbeaten run in this the FINALE of the league, their 7th in as many matches to sit comfortable on 21 points, 5 clear of their nearest rival, Fruta Conquerors. It was Buxton’s 4th loss of the FINALE.
Alpha United notched up their fourth win in a dominating performance against a Pele side which suffered its fourth loss as they continue to struggle.
King Solomon Austin, fresh from his first full international match for Guyana against Puerto Rico where he also scored the lone and winning goal, replicated that form when he scored the opening goal for Alpha in the 34th minute, the first half ending 1-0.
While Pele were able to keep Alpha at bay in the first half, the final 45 minutes saw the former National champions blasting the nets on four more occasions. William Europe started things off seven minutes into the half when he scored in the 52nd minute to double the lead.
Devon Millington of Slingerz FC on the move against Buxton United at the GDF ground on Sunday night.
Colin Nelson in the 64th minute, Delon Lanferman (80th) and Daniel Wilson in the second minute of added on time completed the rout for Alpha United.
SEL Round 8 play will kick off on Friday evening at the Leonora Track and Field Facility when Alpha and Conquerors collide in what is anticipated to be a humdinger of a battle. Conquerors will be seeking to hold down the second place as runaway train Slingerz FC seems uncatchable.
Slingerz will have the chance to record their eight win in as many matches when they take on the wounded Pele in the feature match at 20:30hrs, the first match kicks off two hours earlier.
