A Police Corporal will soon learn the hard way that threatening someone with an illegal gun has severe consequences.
The Corporal, who is attached to the Tactical Services Unit, was arrested on Friday around 18:30 hours at Vreed- en-Hoop, West Bank Demerara, with an unlicensed 9mm pistol and 14 matching rounds of ammunition.
Police ranks at Vreed-en-Hoop had responded to a report of an assault on a businessman at the Stelling in the area and the cop was pointed out.
A search of his person unearthed the weapon for which he did not have a licence.
He was promptly placed into custody and is expected to be charged soon.
And with a zero tolerance policy for illegal firearm possession, it is not too difficult to imagine the fate that could befall the Corporal.
Police sources say that ballistics tests are also to be carried out on the weapon to see if it was ever used in criminal activity.
