The police are in the process of preparing a file to send to the Office of the Director of Public
Prosecutions (DPP) for advice after a Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD) farmer was hit multiple times with shotgun pellets.
But reports are that the shooting occurred after the farmer, Albert Samuel, allegedly pointed an arrow and bow at a security guard, who was overlooking a chicken farm in the village.
According to information, Samuel’s sons would frequently steal from the businessman’s property. This caused the businessman and the farmer to be always at war.
On Friday, this newspaper was told that there was an argument between the businessman’s security and one of Samuels’ sons when the elderly man reportedly rushed up to the guard with an arrow and bow.
This allegedly forced the guard to open fire on Samuel. He was hit multiple times and was hospitalized at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). The security guard was placed on bail.
Yesterday, Samuel visited this newspaper to relate what really transpired last Friday. He explained that he heard his son shouting for him and when he ran out, he was shot.
“I hear shots and then I feel numb, numb and I get blackout,” Samuel said. The farmer said that he and his relatives are scared to return home. The man said that he is not even sure why he was shot.
“These people are after my family. When they see any member of my family, they does harass them with gun and search their bags to see what they got inside. They missing things from them farm and think it’s my family,” the farmer said.
Samuel said that a few days before he was shot, the businessman dragged one of his sons out of his house and took him to an isolated area and put him to lie on the ground. “My son said that they fired a shot above his head.”
Samuel is calling for justice to be served.
