Malcolm Henry who is well known to the authorities and is before the court on a number of charges has
been shot and injured by the police. This was after a confrontation with the police during which he injured two Rural Constables and subsequently attacked police ranks with a knife.
Information revealed that the police were on mobile patrol around 19:55 hrs on Tuesday in the East Canefield Area. Upon driving through Welfare Street they noticed a group of persons including Henry who were on the street corner.
The ranks inquired of the persons their purpose of being there and decided to conduct a search. However the persons resisted and Henry cuffed the two unarmed Rural Constables. He subsequently pulled out a knife and attacked the police.
Henry, 32, of Rosignol, West Bank Berbice and 319 East Canefield, East Canje Berbice were subsequently shot in his leg by an armed policeman.
The man and the two Rural Constables were rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital. The two Rural Constables were treated and sent away.
Henry a father of two was initially treated at the New Amsterdam Hospital and subsequently referred to the GPHC where he has been admitted under guard.
According to the police Henry is currently before the courts on two charges of robbery under arms and is also under investigation for two incidents of alleged rape.
The man who also has a number of aliases is also known as Nikheal Henry of Levi Dam Angoy’s Avenue.
During 2015 he along with known criminal Delroy Joseph called “Barney” and another man were charged for a series of armed robberies.
In July 2013 Henry and Sai Jainarine of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne Berbice, were charged with break and enter and larceny committed between July 4 and July 5, 2013 on the Courts Furniture Store at Main and St Ann Streets, New Amsterdam.
Henry was also charged with breaking and entering the dwelling house of Roopesh Persaud of Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam between Sunday August 25, and Monday August 26, 2013 and stole $1,263,000 in items including two lap top computers, one flat screen television set, one diamond finger ring, three gold chains, two gold rings, one gold band, two pairs of gold earrings, six gold pins, two pairs of gold bangles.
The Police Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting investigations into the current incident.
