Advertisements for the Bed and Breakfast programme will continue as more lodgings are needed for visitors. Director General for the Department of Tourism, Donald Sinclair made the disclosure during an interview with the Government Information Agency.
He also said that most hotel rooms are already reserved for the country’s 50th anniversary celebrations in May.
According to the official, advertisements will encourage property owners who are interested in using parts of their properties for Bed and Breakfast (B&B) purposes, to register with the Ministry of Tourism and the Guyana Tourism Authority.
“More persons will be registering. In fact, all week they’ve been calling the Department of Tourism, calling the Tourism Authority, to find out how they can become registered with the Bed and Breakfast programme,” Sinclair said.
According to Sinclair, the Guyana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism have been inspecting potential B&B properties, and what they are seeing is very encouraging. He said some property owners have done quite a lot to ensure that their property complies with the standards required.
The B&B programme is aimed at creating accommodation for visitors during the Independence Anniversary celebrations. A large influx of visitors is expected for the 50th Jubilee Festival which will commence on May 19 and conclude on May 22.
