A carpenter was yesterday remanded to prison by Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for allegedly trafficking 756 grammes of marijuana.
Fifty-three-year-old Steve McNeil of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which stated that March 22 at National Avenue, South Ruimveldt Park, he had in his possession 756 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking.
The prosecution stated that a party of policemen conducted a raid at McNeil’s home where they discovered the illegal substance.
His attorney, Clyde Forde, requested reasonable bail for his client, stating multiple occupancy as a mitigating factor. He stated that his client is also the sole breadwinner for his family. However, Prosecutor Simone Payne refuted that the prosecution was in possession of any information with regard to multiple occupancy.
McNeil was subsequently refused bail and the matter was adjourned until April 15.
