Sans Souci SC defeated Sans Souci Jaguars SC by five wickets and one over to spare to win the final of the Regal Sports/Trophy Stall T20 tournament which was contested on Sunday in Wakenaam.
Sans Souci Jaguars recovered from a slow start to post a respectable 153-8 after they were inserted at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground in Good Success. Imran Mohamed and Dellon Osbourne added 27 for the opening stand before Mohamed was caught off pacer Roopnarine Persaud for nine. Fast bowler Seon Venture then trapped Osbourne lbw for 15 while Nokta Moses was taken off Persaud for six leaving the Jaguars at 46-3.
It then became 60-4 when Prem Persaud was removed by off-spinner Devon Rambarran for three, but Derwin Daniells and Rashaad Rasheed steadied the innings somewhat with level-headed batting a decent pitch as they added 47 for the fifth wicket. Daniels hit two fours and a similar number of sixes, while Rasheed hit one four and three maximums; both fell for 29. Zameer Zaman hammered two fours and two sixes in scoring 22 in the latter stages of the innings as left arm spinner Tavin Budram picked up 3-14 off 3.4 overs and Persaud 3-43 from four.
Wayne Osbourne and Devon Rambarran got Sans Souci reply off to a flier with an opening stand of 61 in five overs. Osbourne was severe on anything too full or short; he smashed medium pacer Siddique Mohamed to the cover boundary before pulling him over the fine leg for a maximum. Rambarran gradually grew in confidence and ably rotated the strike.

However, teenage spinner Beesham Moses provided the Jaguars with the breakthrough by removing Osbourne for 37 inclusive of six fours and one six before Roopnarine Persaud was run out for 11 at 81-2. Beesham Moses and pacer Derwin Daniells applied the breaks on the scoring with steady bowling. Daniells uprooted the stumps of Rambarran for 26 (2×4, 1×6) before Dellon Osbourne sent back for Tavin Budram for 14 while Kumar Persaud was stumped off Nokta Moses for five.
The Jaguars fielding let them down somewhat and with Sans Souci needing 51 from 30 deliveries and their skipper Seon Venture expertly guided them home with an unbeaten 40 which contained two fours and three sixes.
Skipper Siddique Mohamed opted to re-introduce himself into the attack; the decision back-fired as he conceded 19 from his final over. Venture then had little hiccups thereafter as Sans Souci finished on 154-5. Cleon Venture was unbeaten on six as Daniells, Beesham Moses, Dellon Osbourne and Nokta Moses had one wicket each. Seon Venture was named man-of the-match while Wayne Osbourne (207 runs) and Tavin Budram were the tournament’s best batsman and bowler respectively; both teams received trophies.
Chairman of the Wakenaam Cricket Committee (WCC) Keval Persaud congratulated both teams and thanked the sponsors. He noted the importance of sponsorship and called on the business community to support the game on the island.
In an invited comment Mahendra Hardyal of Regal Sports which is a member of the Regal Stationery and Computer Centre, said he is pleased to give assistance to the WCC and lauded them for a successful tournament.
