Dear Editor,
The Town Clerk Royston King has chosen to rebut the criticisms he has been receiving from many, many persons by suggesting that some of the misanthropists have individual and hidden agendas. It is really disappointing that someone would see constructive criticism as something that is scheming and at odds with making our capital city a better place to live?
Are we all expected to applaud when we see corrupt and decadent behavior? Indeed if there is any individual and hidden agendas it is coming from the senior management of City Hall.
Is King denying that there is widespread nepotism at City Hall, with many sons, daughters and other relatives of senior officers and immediate past Councilors either employed with or given contracts for cleaning and other services at City Hall? The names of these persons can be listed.
Is he disagreeing with the fact that there are enormous acts of cronyism at the Council, with his close friend leading the way having been given most of the cleaning contracts for tens of millions of dollars each, without a tender process being pursued?
Is this honourable gentleman rejecting that there is a splurge of spending at the Georgetown Municipality resulting in the overdraft limit of 300 million being reached and a lot of creditors owed? Is the Town Clerk refuting that the monthly wages bill has jumped from around 100 million a month a year ago, to 200 million a month presently, a huge and unnecessary wage bulge?
Is King denying that he had his close cronies promoted and confirmed as one of the last acts of the past Council before they left? Can he refute the reality that he hardly did anything to advance Georgetown’s interest when he held the position as Public Relations Officer? And now suddenly has awakened to the need to pay interest in the capital. And we can go on and on to various other unscrupulous and uncaring acts by him and his cabal.
What Royston King is trying to do now is what many persons have done in the past when caught up in questionable ethics issues and that is to pull the wool over the eyes of the citizenry. But he should know that people are too smart for that. He needs to understand that he is a public servant and not a politician, and should therefore get on with the work that he is being paid for and expected to do, rather than engaging in all of these public relations stunts.
