Recently imported into Guyana and with two famous names in one, King’s Night of the Jumbo Jet Racing Stable made sure that its entry into the racing arena was more that royal.
All alone King’s Night of the Jumbo Jet stable with Randolph Richmond wins the feature C and lower event.
Running in the feature C and lower event at the Guyana Cup Fever Horserace meet held at the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park, West Coast, Berbice in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet Business entity. Running in the feature C1 and lower event King’s Night was a class act as it won its first race on Guyana soil in convincing fashion.
It was a good day for horseracing and with Director of Sports Christopher Jones among the thousands in attendance as the Guyana Cup Fever 2016 came off with a bang. It was one of the biggest races for the year and as expected the crowd was packed into the venue as the Jumbo Jet Stable used the opportunity to return to championship honours with three wins.
Imported from the USA about three weeks ago and classified D1 and running with a weight of 116 pounds the animal wasted no time in sending a message that it is the new King of the track and will be a force to be reckoned with.
As the animals came out of the starting gates and raced away, it was Just Call Me Boss ahead as the field quickly bunched up. Newly imported Because I Say So of the Elcock stable with Paul Delph on the hunch soon took over and was setting a blistering pace down the backstretch as the animals were really eating up the track in record time with the others in hot pursuit.
Around the far turn the animals were starting to bunch up again with King’s Night ridden by the wily Randolph Richmond starting to make its move with Just Call Me Boss lurking. CP Got Even and Plum Plum were way down in the pack as the top class field were giving fans their money’s worth.

As the animals hit the home stretch King’s Night was beginning to crown them as the finishers like CP Got Even and Plum were now finding their range. The animal however, showed speed and with Richmond urging it on it galloped home to run down the homestretch for the win ahead of Just Call Me Boss. CP Got Even known for its distance running and strong finishes came through with a late surge for third ahead of another strong finisher Plum Plum.
Release The Beast of the Jumbo Jet stable with Richmond in control was released with fury as it ate up its opponents for a gate to pole, to take away the $600,000 and trophy in the 1400M race for F1 and Lower horses ahead of Right To Rule, Keep On Swinging and Precise Gold.
The G2 and lower event saw Big Man Boss of the Habibulla stable with Richmond in control run like a ‘big man’ and showed who is boss for a gate to pole victory. The win was worth $400,000 and trophy as Settling Star, Midnight Blues and Its MY Choice had no choice but to settle for the lower placings.
The1100M event for three years old West Indies bred animals with S400, 000 available was taken by Red Rocket of the Jumbo Jet stable ahead of Firing Line and Isn’t She charming.
The locally bred Caricom Dancer off the Elcock stable with Paul Delph guiding it through showed its opponents a clean pair of heels in its first race on the track for a convincing victory in the 1100M event for three year old Guyana bred maiden horses, beating out She’s in Control and Golden Kiss for the $300,000 and trophy on offer.
Release The Beast winning a close race from Right To Rule, Keep On Swinging and Precise Gold in the F1 and lower race.
Sweet Return with Paul Delph of the Elcock Stable had a good time on the track as it ran away with the $250,000 and trophy in the H3 and lower race in a close finish from Cat Messiah, She’s So Special and Mary Ann.
Liquid Lion of the Baker stable with Wills won the J1 and lower race as Party Time, Massaquita Dr and Little failed to come to the party.
The top jockey on show was Randolph Richmond with the Jumbo Jet stable being the champion sable, they received awards compliments of the Trophy Stall.
The Police led by Assistant Superintendent Paul Harvey and women Sergeants Cynthia Kelly and Tracy Benjamin Long were commended for doing a splendid job. (Samuel Whyte)
