President David Granger, yesterday afternoon, took a walk through the National Park in Georgetown to meet with Guyanese who came out in their numbers to fly kites, picnic or just to relax with their families in what has
become an Easter Monday tradition.
In a brief comment to media operatives, the Head of State said, “I come here every year because Guyanese of all ethnicities and all religions look forward to this ritual of flying kites on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Even though they may not be Christians it has now become a national pastime.”
The President said that other Caribbean countries are astonished at the scale in which Easter Monday kite-flying is done in Guyana and how it attracts children and older folks alike.
Apart from the National Park, the No.63 Beach in Region Six, Hope Beach, Joe Vieira Park and along the seawall are also usually packed with kite-flyers on Easter Monday.
