Residents of Best Jetty and Plastic City on the West Bank of Demerara have forged a partnership with the Police Force’s ‘D’ Division, aimed at providing opportunities to improve their livelihood.
The partnership was cemented when the Police Divisional Commander Stephen Mansell visited the area last Tuesday and handed over a large quantity of books for the newly built library there.
The mini library was built by members of the Community Development Group.
In addition to the books, Senior Superintendent Mansell donated a football to the youths of the area.
The partnership is a result of the group’s Director Antonio Paul approaching the Commander requesting that a closer relationship be established.
The objective is to reduce and prevent criminal activities in the communities of Plastic City and Best Jetty by engaging youths in the skills training remedial classes organized by the police and sports.
