There seems to be no way in stopping the destruction being created by the rampaging
Fyrish Black Sharks as they destroyed a hapless and under-prepared New Amsterdam Warriors basketball club 55-38 to advance to the final of the third edition of the Anamayah Memorial Basketball first division tournament for teams in Berbice.
The semi-final encounter was played on Thursday at the Fyrish Basketball court.
The Fyrish Black Sharks made full use of home court advantage and were well prepared for battle. Sharks have played unbeaten so far and were out to an early 11-2 lead by the end of the first stanza.
Black Sharks continued to hunt down the unprepared Warriors, counterattacking and making key steals to go to the half time break up 26-10.
Even with healthy lead the half time rest only served to reenergize the roving Black Sharks. The resumption saw them forging ahead with vigour, scoring 20 points to their opponents 13 as that stanza ended 46-23.
Despite the best efforts of the Warriors which came in the final segment that saw them scoring 15 points to the Black Sharks 11. It was evident that the once powerful Warriors were beaten and conquered as the Black Sharks maintained their unbeaten run with the runaway 55-38 win and a spot in the final against surprise package Ithaca Hardliners.
The Black Sharks were led by the consistent Linden Joseph with a game high 21 points, as Joel Fraser 14 and Real Franklyn 8 supported. For the New Amsterdam Warriors Shamar France led their effort with 14 points, while Raymone Fogenay scored 10 and Kirk Fraser 6.
The final is set for Sunday 3rd April at the Fyrish Basket Ball court, Corentyne, Berbice from 15:00 hrs.
At stake in the competition are cash and other incentives for the winning and runner-up teams and outstanding players.
The tournament is organised by sport enthusiast Vibert Garnett. (Samuel Whyte)
