Both Chairman of the Region Two Regional Democratic Council, Devenand Ramdatt and Regional Executive Officer, Mr. Rupert Hopkinson, are convinced that in order for the Region to move forward, seniors responsible for departments in the Region should lead by example by first adopting the key principles of accessibility and accountability.
Ramdatt also believes that the developmental process should engage the efforts of all Essequibians.
An important meeting which sought to address a series of prioritized issues affecting residents in the Region, and at the same time which was aimed at reminding Programme Heads of their duties which should be executed in a professional manner at all times, was held in the Region’s boardroom on Tuesday.
The special meeting was convened by Regional Chairman Ramdatt, who is of the opinion that Programme Heads are not carrying out their mandates effectively and as such, a proactive approach should be adopted in order to fuel progress.
During his address which was directed at all Programme Heads, Regional Executive Officer, Hopkinson stated that if Region Two (Pomeroon/ Supenaam) is to develop, Managers (Programme Heads) must be answerable to concerns of the residents.
“If this Region or any other Region for that matter cannot function properly, unless we are not accessible and accountable to the people.”
Hopkinson added that the vision which should guide us is that one must be efficient and effective for all of the residents, regardless of where one resides. Even more importantly, Hopkinson reminded that the meeting was about seeking to work with the team.
“In so doing, despite how difficult it is we are going to look at our mistakes, perhaps misdeeds of the past and charter a course for the future which in some cases means new but better ways to approach our development.
Hopkinson said, “We must be as judicious as how we use its resources such as fuel, vehicles, time on the job, supplies etc.”
Hopkinson said he was evenly concerned about the Region’s image and its appeal to visitors. He told his audience that in times when the administration cannot provide employment for all its people, focus must be directed towards creating parks and open spaces and destinations to do business where people would be able to come and spend money, in the event, creating much needed jobs for the residents of Region Two.
